Hamot wants your delivery to be just that - your delivery. Hamot maternity care provides technology to care for you and your baby. From ultrasound to stress and non-stress testing, you can rely on Hamot's maternity care for the most accurate results. The nursing staff brings over 900 years of labor and delivery experience to your delivery. We go out of our way to offer a variety of birthing options that can be tailored to your needs. You will enjoy a warm, comfortable atmosphere in all of the labor and delivery rooms. Soft colors, stenciled walls and plenty of space help your family feel welcome. After delivery, you will have all of the privacy you want for your new family. We provide special visiting hours for sibling and grandparent visitation. We offer a tour of our maternity unit prior to delivery.

Your comfort is the highest priority with bedside care, backrubs, walks and assistance in easing you into new positions. After birth, you and your baby remain under highly personalized care. You have the option of having your baby stay in your room with you which enables you to learn how to care for your new infant. Our nurses will help you to take care of you as well, a priority that is often neglected during this busy time.

For those babies that need special care, Hamot has a team of experienced neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists and a level three neonatal intensive care unit that has been serving the region for over 30 years.

You should be prepared and educated on caring for yourself and your baby. At Hamot we want you to get a head start by offering a range of classes at the Hamot Health Connection located in Sterling Square. You should plan to attend at least one of these popular prenatal classes taught by our highly experienced maternity nursing staff:

Baby basics
Breast-feeding basics
Pregnancy Massage
Infant CPR
Yoga and prenatal exercise

Breast-Feeding

For mothers that choose to breast-feed, Hamot has two board certified lactation consultants on staff with 20 years of experience. The lactation consultants provide breast-feeding education and support, as well as guidance in purchasing a quality, reputable breast pump and adapting to breast pumping after returning to work.

If you have questions once you return home, you can call our free breast-feeding help hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week after discharge. If additional one-on-one attention is needed, you can call and make an appointment to meet with one of our lactation consultants.

Breastfeeding support and follow-up services are also available in a group setting twice a month at Babies "R" Us, 6680 Peach St. The sessions are held with our certified lactation consultants the 1st Monday of the month from 1p.m. -3 p.m. and every third Thursday of the month from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Hamot’s Stork Support Program

Stork Support is a prenatal program for women who plan to deliver their baby at Hamot. Thanks to a $20,000 community grant from the Pennsylvania State Chapter of the March of Dimes, Hamot created the program, which is designed to give each mother-to-be and her loved ones an opportunity to prepare for the birth of the newest family addition.

The Stork Support Program includes:

A private one-on-one visit with a registered nurse who specializes in perinatal nursing (Stork Support nurse). The nurse will offer pre-registration for labor and delivery and a private tour for the mother-to-be and her family if they choose.
Follow-up phone calls from a Stork Support nurse.
Monthly Internet newsletters called “My Baby Expectations.” The newsletter offers hints, advice and valuable insights into pregnancy and parenting.
Access to the resource library at the Hamot Health Connection, including lists of classes offered on childbirth, baby basics, breastfeeding, infant massage, etc.
