Sleep-related illnesses affect an estimated 40 million Americans, 10 million of whom seek medical assistance for these problems each year. Sleep disorders result in reduced productivity and increased absenteeism from work, disrupted social relationships, depression, and increased incidences of automobile and work-related accidents. They also contribute to serious medical problems such as high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke.

The Hamot Sleep Disorders Center has been created to bring sophisticated diagnostic and treatment services to people in our region suffering from sleep disorders. The centers feature a skilled team of technologists and physicians in a dedicated setting expressly designed for conducting sleep studies and diagnoses. Our mission is to restore normal, restorative sleep to our patients and, in turn, improve the quality of their lives. The Hamot Sleep Disorders Center has two sleep labs that have been accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

The AASM is the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and is considered the "gold standard" for the field. Sleep disorders centers that achieve accreditation by the AASM need to have demonstrated that they meet the highest standards of quality patient care and promote excellence in the provision of medical care for sleep disorders patients.

The Hamot Sleep Disorders Centers are full-service, state-of-the-art centers equipped to treat a wide range of sleep disorders. The Centers offer a complete evaluation and treatment of all types of sleep disturbances. Hamot's facility is staffed by sleep specialists including board-certified physicians, a physician who is board-certified in sleep medicine, registered polysomnographic technologists (RPSTGs) and respiratory therapists.

Advances in sleep medicine and technology have made it possible to restore the good night's sleep that is fundamental to health and well-being. Comprehensive sleep studies at the Hamot Sleep Disorders Center are conducted in the comfort of private, well-furnished rooms utilizing the latest digital equipment.
