Computerized Tomography

Capabilities

Computerized tomography-also called CT, CT scan, and CAT scan-is an x-ray technique that produces more detailed images of your internal organs than conventional x-ray exams.

CT is used to help:

  • Diagnose muscle and bone disorders, such as osteoporosis.
  • Pinpoint the location of a tumor, infection, or blood clot.
  • Guide procedures such as surgery, biopsy, and radiation therapy.
  • Detect and monitor diseases such as cancer or heart disease.
  • Detect internal injuries and internal bleeding.

Non-invasive imaging of the heart, peripheral and cerebral vessels, and new imaging techniques for stroke detection are now possible and available at UPMC Hamot. This advanced technology is operated by a registered technologist dedicated to providing the best possible patient care. UPMC Hamot's board-certified radiologists have the expertise and experience to provide your physician with an accurate interpretation of your images.
