Treatable Conditions

Acne, Actinic Keratoses, Age Spots, Cafe-au-lait, Dark circles under the eyes, Freckles, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, Rosacea

Photo Rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. As most of us age, we begin to see visible signs of sun damage. Time and lifestyle choices also affect the appearance in our complexion. This aged look may include freckles, Rosacea, wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin color, redness of the face and neck, enlarged pore size and uneven pigmentation. Photo Rejuvenation is the only procedure that can treat vascular redness, the appearance of Rosacea, pigmented brown spots, sun damage and collagen structure all at once. With the use of Broad Band Light therapy, dramatic improvements can now be accomplished with little or no "downtime" and with very minimal discomfort.

Photo Rejuvenation treatments are beneficial for the treatment of:

  • Rosacea Photo Rejuvenation reduces the overall redness; flushing and tiny blood vessels associated with the condition and often improves the acne breakouts which are common.
  • Sun damage to the face (photo-aging) Photo Rejuvenation reduces freckling and irregular pigmentation and creates a more smooth appearance to the skin and even some reduction in pore appearance. Sun damage to the chest and back (photo-aging) Photo Rejuvenation reduces the freckling and irregular pigmentation to the chest and/or back and improves the overall appearance of the skin. Also reduces the redness on the chest associated with excessive sun exposure. Sun damage to the hands and arms (photo-aging, also called "liver spots") Photo Rejuvenation reduces the freckling and irregular pigmentation to the hands and even the arms with improvement in the thin-skin appearance of sun damaged hands.
  • Active Acne Photo Rejuvenation employs three different lasers to address all acne issues: one laser kills the bacteria which live in your pores and cause acne, the second laser removes the red discoloration from active acne pimples, and the third modality clears the cystic acne.

Why is BBL Photo Rejuvenation ( Photofacial ) becoming so popular? [top]
BBL Photo Rejuvenation ( Photofacial ) is considered by many to be the most useful recent advance in cosmetic treatments for the skin. It is an exciting technology which treats a combination of aging changes in facial, neck and upper chest skin. It has recently gained widespread popularity in the USA primarily because of its more dramatic and effective results compared to microdermabrasion or chemical peels and the fact that it is non-invasive and can usually be performed without down time. Photo Rejuvenation provides consistent, visible improvement in the skin with no downtime, little discomfort and minimal risk.

How much downtime is involved after a Broad Band Light ( Photofacial ) treatment? [top]
This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no down time. In most cases you will be able to return to work, apply makeup and resume daily activities. We recommend that you avoid direct sun exposure and exposure to heat such as hot tubs. Immediately following the treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and brown spots may appear darker for a short time. These changes gradually fade over a few hours to a few days as your skin heals. Make-up can be applied immediately following the procedure if necessary, so it is possible to return straight back to work. Your treatment will be followed up with a call from your technician and any questions you may have will be answered.

After your first treatment, your skin will appear smoother and have a more even tone. The improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment. A series of 4 treatments at 4 week intervals are recommended for optimal results.

Even after your first treatment, your skin can look smoother and will have more even skin tone. Improvement is gradual and will continue to be more visible after each treatment. Many individuals experience dramatic results only after 1-2 treatments; however, four to five treatments are recommended for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from additional yearly maintenance treatments.

What is involved in Photo Rejuvenation treatments? [top]
Each treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes. A mild amount of discomfort can be expected. Individuals with more sensitivity may prefer to use a topical anesthetic cream which is applied 30-60 minutes prior to treatment. Immediately following a treatment, the skin may appear more red and flushed and the brown spots generally appear slightly darker. Over the next several days, the brown spots darken and then subsequently "flake off".
