Spider veins on the face and legs bother millions of people. Spider veins (or telangiectasias) are red, bluish or purple veins that can result from sun exposure, use of oral contraception, hormone therapy, the aging process, or heredity. Advanced laser technology offers an effective treatment for facial and spider veins.

A large percentage of men and women will deal with visible and unsightly veins on their legs and face. Smaller leg veins are often called spider veins, are caused by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels near the skin's surface. They often look like red, blue or purple lines, sunbursts or web patterns. When they occur on the face these spider veins, also called telangiectasias, may be related to chronic sun exposure or exposure to extreme temperatures. They tend to occur on either the nose or cheeks of fair skinned people. Telangiectasias are abnormally dilated vessels very close to the surface of the skin. Both types of vessels respond very well to modern treatments. The most common treatments for veins include laser therapy and it has become the gold standard of treatment. This laser is the most effective on the market, and the results are excellent. We typically recommend 4-6 treatments depending on the size and location of the vessels.

Our advanced technology enables us to safely, easily and effectively use laser to remove spider veins anywhere on the face or body. The laser treatment works by passing light through the skin heating up the blood in the vessel causing thermocoagulation of the vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body. Laser spider vein treatment may cause minor bruising which usually improves within a week, but often, recovery is immediate. Four to six treatments may be required to achieve your desired result.

How does a laser help? [top]
With a beam of light, the laser can deliver a prescribed dose of energy to the spider veins. The laser "selectively" coagulated the problem veins while sparing surrounding areas. After treatment, the vessels will slowly and naturally disappear. Results are seen within 4 to 8 weeks. Typically, one to two treatments are recommended.

Can we be sure that this will work on my veins? [top]
This is something that must be determined with each patient individually, but the majority of patients will benefit from this treatment.

Is this treatment difficult? [top]
No. This non-invasive treatment process takes between 15 minutes to about 30 minutes, depending on your situation. After treatment, there is a 24 hour period in which we recommend that you avoid physical activity, after that you can resume all of your normal activities.

Is this painful? [top]
There is some minor discomfort associated with this laser treatment. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of rubber band snaps to the skin. We can often reduce or eliminate this by cooling the treated area with an air-cooling device.
