Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a medical specialty that uses innovative, advanced imaging-based diagnosis, with minimally invasive surgery. This medical specialty uses imaging technology to confirm or reveal actual or potential health problems. In many cases this provides earlier intervention for patients, and may reduce or even eliminate the need for a more invasive surgery.

Interventional radiology procedures are performed by an interventional radiologist. These highly trained physicians use various imaging methods to perform many minimally invasive procedures. Their expertise is used for both diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. An interventional radiologist is specially trained to help guide the placement of needles, catheters or other devices into specifically targeted areas of the body for disease treatment without major surgery.
