Hamot Shock Trauma began as a concept envisioned by the leadership at Hamot in 2001. They believed that a single hospital delivering all the trauma care for the region could improve care by guaranteeing in-house care for trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week by a board-certified surgeon with experience in caring for victims of trauma. The program is a multispecialty endeavor that includes six general surgeons, eleven orthopaedic surgeons, four neurosurgeons, seven cardiovascular surgeons as well as experts who specialize in reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. The Hamot Shock Trauma team also includes physicians, nurses and staff in the emergency department as well as radiologists, anesthesiologists and all the ancillary services you would expect at a 100 Top Hospital.
