Program Overview

The Master of Science in Nursing program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia and offers a unique learning opportunity through Hamot Medical Center and Gannon University. Participants will earn a graduate degree in nursing with a concentration in anesthesia.

The faculty has earned advanced degrees from various universities and many have experience in the areas of trauma, pediatrics, cardiovascular, neurological and obstetrical anesthesia. The faculty are active learners, as well as, highly effective teachers. The master of nursing program is designed to provide a graduate level education in nurse anesthesia for registered nurses. The curriculum is designed to enable the student to broaden his/her background in nursing, biological sciences, pharmacology and anesthesia. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to:

  • Write the certification examination administered by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Provide nursing care for the patient undergoing anesthesia.
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the approaches for the delivery of anesthesia nursing.
  • Assume leadership positions as advanced practitioners, teachers, or administrators in anesthesia nursing.
  • Utilize research findings, test nursing theories and formulate concepts.

Hamot Surgery Center

Erie, PA

Hamot Surgery Center is an affiliation of Hamot Medical Center. This offers the students experience in anesthesia in a same-day-surgery setting.

Fairview General Hospital

Cleveland Clinic Health Systems, Cleveland, OH

Fairview offers the student enhanced obstetrical experience to include high-risk pregnancy epidurals and C-sections. The student may also have the opportunity to participate in neonatal anesthesia. This is a six week on-call rotation.

Punxsutawney Area Hospital

Punxsutawney, PA

Punxsutawney offers the student experience in hands-on regional techniques and management, in addition to performing anesthesia in another clinical setting. Clinical rotation is six weeks (subject to change). The medical center provides living accommodations in Punxsutawney, PA.

Brooks Memorial Hospital

Dunkirk, NY

Brooks Memorial Hospital offers the students experience in an underserved rural anesthesia practice. Clinical rotation is six weeks (subject to change).

Warren General Hospital

Warren, PA

Warren General Hospital offers the students experience in an underserved rural anesthesia practice. Clinical rotation is six weeks (subject to change).
