Trauma Surgeon

UPMC Hamot is seeking an additional Trauma Surgeon to join our current team of three trauma surgeons. We believe we offer an outstanding opportunity to practice medicine in an exceptional environment.

  • UPMC Hamot is designated as a Level II Trauma Center. We provide trauma care to the over 1 million residents of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Western New York and Northeastern Ohio and we are the only Trauma Center within 100 miles of Erie.
  • The local pre-hospital system includes ambulance and helicopter transport.
  • Our 25,000 square foot Emergency/Trauma Center has 35 private patient rooms, including three dedicated trauma resuscitation rooms, "point of care" testing and radiology and CT suites adjacent to the resuscitation rooms.
  • There is a 28-bed Surgical ICU and a separate 14-bed Medical ICU. When Trauma victims leave the ICU they are transferred to an acute care floor dedicated to trauma patients.
  • In addition to the Trauma Surgeons, the Trauma Service is staffed by a Trauma Nurse Coordinator, two Assistant Nurse Coordinators, two Social Workers and a Trauma Registrar.
  • Coverage of call is shared with three trauma and four general surgeons in the practice.

Our annual Trauma census is ~1600 patients, 90% of which are blunt injuries. The Trauma Surgeon functions as a full-time hospital-based surgeon working closely with the other Trauma Surgeons, Intensivists, Medical Staff and Trauma Program Coordinator to ensure that consistent, exceptional quality care is rendered to all trauma patients.

The ideal candidate will have completed a Trauma or Critical Care Fellowship or has extensive Trauma Surgery experience, and is certified by the American Board of Surgeons or the American Osteopathic Association. We offer an excellent salary commensurate with experience and training. The benefits package includes paid malpractice insurance, vacation/CME, holidays, medical and dental insurance, 457 (b) deferred compensation plan, 403(b) tax shelter, pension plan, short and long-term disability, group life insurance, and all interview and relocation expenses.
