Physician Opportunities - Emergency Medicine

UPMC Hamot Medical Center is seeking additional residency-trained Emergency Medicine physicians who are of high quality, patient friendly, highly productive and enthusiastic Emergency Medicine physicians, to join our dynamic team of 16 hospital-based physicians.

UPMC Hamot, located in Erie, PA, is a 412-bed non-profit tertiary care hospital. Hamot is a fully accredited Level II Trauma Center and is the only trauma center within 100 miles. UPMC Hamot is consistently an award winning hospital, most notably being recognized nationally by Thomsen Reuters.. For several years the National Research Corporation found Hamot to be the number one choice for healthcare in the Erie community. These acknowledgments speak volumes about the high quality care we deliver every day. The Medical Staff has over 400 physicians representing most specialties and subspecialties and we have residency training programs in Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurology and Emergency Medicine.

  • The Emergency Department volume is currently over 66,000 patients per year and is growing.
  • Physician coverage is 50 hours per day with 12 hours separate physician staffing in the minor emergency area. Physician extenders are used for additional coverage in both areas 36 hours/day. There is 24-48 hours of Emergency Medicine Resident coverage per day. One Physician FTE is dedicated to overnight staffing to minimize overnight shift responsibility.
  • We treat a diverse patient population with moderate to high acuity. Our 25,000 square foot “state of the art” Emergency Department has 35 private patient rooms including 3 dedicated trauma resuscitation rooms and in-department radiology and CT suites.
  • We have a patient tracking system, bedside registration and in-house dictation.
  • UPMC Hamot’s growing relationships with hospitals in our region provides additional opportunities for Emergency Medicine physicians.

As a member of the UPMC, Hamot physicians enjoy a very generous salary with an excellent benefits package including paid malpractice insurance, medical and dental insurance, group life insurance, four weeks of vacation, two CME with expenses, short and long-term disability, 403(b) tax-deferred savings plan with employer match, 457(b) deferred compensation plan, as well as all interview and relocation expenses. Our full-time contract is for 1602 hours/year.
