Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)

The MICU is a 14-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit serving patients with acute and chronic illnesses in which intensive observation and intervention is required. MICU patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery with the collaboration of a specialized team that includes Intensivists, Pulmonologists, Nephrologists, Hospitalists, Registered Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Secretaries and a large support staff providing quality patient-centered care.

MICU has a strong shared-governance model for leading unit operations. Shared-governance committees include education, peer review, scheduling, retention and recruitment, practice council, quality assurance/performance improvement and a unit-specific PCA and Unit Secretary committee.

New MICU staff members benefit from a nurse preceptor program in which two nurses guide each new member through a 16-week orientation. Continuing education is offered and encouraged.
