Dialysis Unit
The UPMC Hamot Dialysis Unit cares for about 2,700 patients a year, the majority of whom are seen for chronic or acute hemodialysis. The fastest-growing segment of the patient care population is for plasmapheresis. This treatment is done on both an inpatient and outpatient basis to control numerous autoimmune-related disorders. The Unit’s staff is comprised of experienced Registered Nurses and technicians who educate patients on their disease process, dietary requirements and related medical problems. In order to provide the best treatment plan for our patients, care is coordinated with the local chronic dialysis units, Davita Erie Dialysis and the Davita Dialysis Center of Erie. Patients who live outside the local area will be transitioned to an outpatient dialysis center closer to their home.
