6 South

Nurses on 6 South provide care to a wide variety of surgical patients, including those who have had cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, general surgery, colon-rectal surgery, bariatric surgery or plastic surgery. The unit offers a multitude of learning opportunities for new and experienced nursing professionals, with unit- based R&R and service excellence and peer review committees. Leadership Clinical Practice and clinical education committees encourage and mentor growth with a teamwork approach to patient care.

  • Types of patients: CV surgical, gastric bypass, colon rectal, Medical Chest Pain and Rule Out MI
  • Number of beds on unit: 46
  • Average daily census: 40
  • Nurse/Patient Ratio: 1:6 ( based on patient condition )

  • Equipment: Telemetry, Continuous pulse oximetry, Accudose medication system, Alaris Medley Infusion Pumps, Invision Nursing Documentation, Medication Administration System (MAK)
