3 South Inpatient serves a diverse population, including neurosurgery, colon/rectal, urology, plastic surgery, general surgery and low-risk chest pain patients, and infusion patients on weekends.
3 South offers “closed unit staffing,” a model that has been well received by the unit’s nursing staff.

- Types of patients: Medical/Surgical, a little bit of several different specialties
- (Infusions (weekend), Low risk CP, plastics, general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, colon/rectal)
- Number of Beds on Unit: 24
- Average daily census: 22
- Nurse – patient ratio: 1:5 on days/evenings, 1:5 or 1:6 on nights

- Equipment: Patient Controlled Analgesia Pumps, Alaris pumps, Pulse oximetry, Medication Administration Check System, Epidura/pumps wound vacs
