Basic 12 Lead EKG
Do you find 12 Lead EKG's to be complicated and puzzling? Are you responsible for the care of patients with myocardial infarctions? Are you interested in enhancing your skills with 12 Lead EKG interpretation? Then the Basic 12 Lead EKG program is for you!
This course will provide you with the information you need to make a 12 Lead an indispensable tool for use with high risk cardiac patients. By participating in this program you will be able to:
- Detect and identify acute events on 12 and 18 lead EKGs using a systematic format.
- Identify various types of myocardial infarctions including anterior, inferior, lateral, posterior and combinations of these infractions.
- Plot the axis using a two lead method.
- Recognize ischemia, injury and infarction as they appear on the 12 and 18 lead EKGs.

Pre-Requisites
Participants should have a solid foundation in basic arrhythmia identification, cardiac anatomy and physiology, and be able to analyze a rhythm strip (lead II)

Continuing Education Contact Hours
UPMC Hamot is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Participants will be awarded 3.8 contact hours. You must attend the entire program in order to receive credit. Accreditation refers to recognition of continuing nursing education activities only and does not imply Commission on Accreditation approval or endorsement of any commercial product.
