Welcome to the Hamot Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency!
The Hamot Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a four-year, AOA-accredited program offering a well-rounded training experience at a fully accredited Level II trauma center.
Hamot Medical Center is a 351-bed tertiary care hospital and is the recognized leader in the provision of emergency and trauma care services for the tri-state region of Northwest Pennsylvania, Southwest New York and Northeast Ohio.
Hamot's Emergency Department treats a diverse patient population with moderate to high acuity and sees a volume of more than 70,000 patients per year. The 25,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Emergency Department has 35 private patient rooms, including three dedicated trauma resuscitation rooms, and onsite radiology and CT suites. Our IBEX patient tracking system and bedside registration create an efficient flow of patient documentation from registration through discharge.
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides progressive learning experiences that develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge required for osteopathic physicians to efficiently provide quality emergency care. Hamot's Research Center supports resident research into basic science and clinical studies throughout the program.
Hamot's Emergency Medicine program prepares residents to:
- Meet certification requirements of the AOA through the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
- Manage medical/surgical problems presented in an emergency department setting, based on the knowledge of basic and clinical sciences.
- Use critical thinking in making effective decisions for patient management.
- Rapidly and accurately evaluate, organize and initiate treatment of the emergency patient.
- Make sound, ethical and legal judgments as to the expected risks arising from therapy as well as the condition being treated.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the psychomotor skills required of a competent emergency physician.
- Integrate OMM skills and practice into the treatment and diagnosis of their patients.
Hamot's Emergency Medicine Residency Program was recently reaccredited for five years without citations, which is a testament both to the high quality of our program and to the level of trust instilled in our program by the AOA.
Thank you for considering Hamot for your residency! If any of your questions are not answered by this website, please contact Pat Rogers, GME Program Administrator by phone at (814) 877-6257 or via email at pat.rogers@hamot.org.
