Financial Aid

Students needing assistance to help pay for graduate Courses have to file the Pennsylvania state grant and federal student aid Application. This needs analysis document is a necessity for participation in campus based and Stafford student loans.

Campus Based Programs

Campus based programs involve moneys given to Gannon University by the federal government. Money granted depends on the financial need, amount of other aid received and availability of funds at Gannon. Due to limited funds, when the fund is exhausted, no new awards will be made for the academic year. There are two campus based programs graduate students may qualify for at Gannon. The first is the college work study program; this source of aid provides jobs for students who demonstrated need. Opportunities for employment are limited by the amount of funding the school receives from the federal government.

The second campus program is the Perkins Program. This is a low interest loan (rate may vary) from the federal government and Gannon University. The graduate student may borrow up to $18,000 for their graduate and undergraduate work while enrolled at least half time (six semester hours). The student does not have to make payments on interest or principle until after graduation. Not all eligible students will be able to participate in this program because funds may not be available.

The Stafford Student Loan

The Stafford student loan is the name for the guaranteed student loan. Loans are low interest, made by a lender such as a bank, credit union or savings and loan association. These loans are reinsured by the federal government. For new borrowers, the interest rate is 8 percent for the first four years of repayment and 10 percent after that. Depending on your financial need, you may borrow up to $7,500 a year.

Supplemental Loans

Under the supplemental loan graduate students may borrow amounts in addition to the Stafford loan limits. Interest payments begin immediately and the amount is limited to $1,800 per year.

Veterans Benefits

GI bill education benefits may be used for the pursuit of a graduate degree. The veterans administration funds a work study program for veterans who are full (nine semester hours). Since positions under this program are limited, early Application is necessary. Questions may be directed to Veterans Affairs Office, second floor, old main building, Gannon University (814) 871-7487.
