Joseph P. Butler
Vice President of Support Services and Chief Information Officer, UPMC Hamot
Joseph P. Butler is vice president of Support Services and chief information officer for UPMC Hamot. He joined Hamot in 1991 as manager of Information Systems and was appointed chief information officer in 1998 and vice president in 2000. In his current role, Mr. Butler is responsible for Information Technology, Human Resources, and Education for UPMC Hamot.
Prior to joining Hamot, Mr. Butler was director of Information Systems for Grandview and Southview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and a senior consultant with Healthcare Information Sciences Inc. of Indianapolis.
Mr. Butler received a master's degree in business administration from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and a certificate in human resources studies from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. He also holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton. Mr. Butler is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
Mr. Butler is active in many community organizations including the Northwest PA Chapter Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where he served as Board president and currently serves as a Board member. In addition, Mr. Butler serves as the chair of the Information Technology Committee of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International Board and is currently a Board member of EmergyCare Inc.
Mr. Butler and his wife, Laura, live in Erie with their three children, Kaitlin, Andrew, and Eric.
