Live view of Women & Children’s Hospital

On Friday, August 3, Hamot broke ground on a brand new, free-standing Women & Children’s Hospital. Plans include the construction of the hospital at 118 E. Second St., the site of the former Hamot Resource Center Building. The project will create a separate five-story building for delivering babies, providing gynecological services, and housing the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric wing. Hamot has borrowed $30 million and is conducting a $5 million capital campaign to pay for the facility.

Once complete the facility will total 137,012 square feet.

The existing ground floor tunnel to the medical center is being preserved and three additional elevators are being added for a total of five elevators to support the new hospital building. Completion of the project is estimated for 2010.
